Jason Derulo applauded for cancelling SeaWorld gig

Jason Derulo has received gifts from PETA after cancelling his SeaWorld performance.

After hearing the animal rights organisation's claims that the park "sexually abuses dolphins and whales by forcibly impregnating them - and that more than 40 orcas have died, many prematurely, in SeaWorld's tanks", the singer pulled out of a scheduled concert during the Seven Seas Food Festival at SeaWorld Orlando in Florida.

Derulo was supposed to perform at the theme park on 21 April.

In thanks, PETA reveals it has sent the Watcha Say star its popular SeaWorld Sucks T-shirt, dolphin-shaped vegan fruit snacks, and a stuffed toy dolphin for his son.

PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman announced: "Jason Derulo made the right call in refusing to endorse SeaWorld's body count with a performance.

"People will continue to turn their backs on SeaWorld as long as it relies on animal exploitation, which is why PETA is calling on the park to move the dolphins and whales it holds captive to seaside sanctuaries."

Country musician Chris Young was set to perform in Derulo's place.

Derulo isn't the first public figure to distance themselves from SeaWorld after PETA intervention.

In 2022, Joan Jett blasted SeaWorld on PETA's behalf, asking, "When will SeaWorld end its sordid breeding program?"

Derulo is preparing for his upcoming Las Vegas residency, which begins later this month.
