Javier Bardem, Chloë Sevigny Board Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monster’
The second chapter of Ryan Murphy’s Monster anthology at Netflix, which will focus on the Menendez brothers case, has filled two key roles with big names.
Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny will play José and Kitty Menendez, the parents of Lyle and Erik. The brothers’ 1989 killing of their parents sparked a media firestorm, and Lyle and Erik were eventually convicted of murder.

The anthology series will be Bardem’s first major role in an American TV series. Sevigny has worked with Murphy several times in the past, appearing in two seasons of American Horror Story and the forthcoming Feud: Capote vs. the Swans at FX.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will track the ins and outs of the case, which became a huge story following José and Kitty’s murders at their Beverly Hills home. The brothers were tried twice, with the first trial resulting in deadlocked juries and the second ending in convictions for first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Lyle and Erik (who will be played by Nicholas Chavez and Cooper Koch) claimed that they had suffered years of abuse from their parents and shot them because they feared for their own lives.
Following the runaway success of the first installment of Monster, which focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Netflix ordered two more seasons of the true crime anthology (the subject for the third season hasn’t been announced). Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story currently ranks third on Netflix’s most popular English-language series list.
Murphy and Ian Brennan executive produce Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story with Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, David McMillan, Louise Shore and Carl Franklin. The series is slated to premiere later this year.
Bardem is coming off The Little Mermaid at Disney and will next be seen in Dune: Part Two, set for release in March. He also stars with Brad Pitt in a Formula 1 movie at Apple. Bardem is repped by WME, agent José Marzilli in Spain and Goodman Genow.
Sevigny’s recent credits include Hulu’s The Girl From Plainville, Peacock’s Poker Face and the feature Bones and All. She is repped by WME and Circle of Confusion.
