Jay Blades turned down a sleepover with King Charles three times

Jay Blades has says that he turned down a sleepover with King Charles III three times.

With the newly crowned monarch set to accompany Blades on an upcoming episode of The Repair Shop, Blades revealed that the King is a fan of the show.

Appearing on This Morning to promote his new book as well as his special episode with the Royal, Blades talked about his previous encounter with the King.

Blades said: "He invited me, probably three times, to go to Dumfries House, just to have a look around and have a sleepover. But I was so busy I turned him down three times."

He continued: "Then I said to the missus, “'Look, the fourth invitation came, we can’t ignore this one. I’ll be kicked out the country.'"

Blades then dished on his experience with the then Prince: "So I went up there, filmed with him, and it was just a joy because basically, someone like me, from a council estate, and someone like him, from the Royal estate, we’ve both have the same interest."

King Charles III's upcoming episode of The Repair Shop is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the BBC and will see the monarch bring in items to get fixed by Blades and discuss his interests such as heritage and his charity The Prince's Trust.

Blades' team will fix two items of importance to the King – an 18th Century bracelet clock and a piece of pottery from Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee.

The programme was filmed between August 2021 and March 2022, before Charles became King following the death of his mother the Queen Elizabeth II.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV. The special episode of The Repair Shop will air on 26 October at 8pm on BBC One.
