The friend of missing teenager, Jay Slater, has claimed he "cut his leg on a cactus" and didn't know where he was before he disappeared.

The 19-year-old travelled to Tenerife with his friend, Lucy Law, for a music festival. The friends parted ways after the festival as Jay went out to stay with people he met on a night out.

Lucy has told Sky News' UK Tonight Programme about the last time she heard from Jay as he managed to contact her when he had just 1% battery remaining on his phone. She said he rang her to say he "didn't know where he was", that he "needed a drink" and had "cut his leg on a cactus".

Jay sent a photo of his location and said he didn't know where he was when Lucy told him to return to where he had walked from. Soon after he went missing, Lucy said an American woman offered to drive her into the mountains which is the focus of the search for Jay.

However, she said there was "literally no sign of him anywhere". She added: "We drove around all day."

Jay, who hails from Lancashire, had posted a picture of some mountains online next to a house he had been to. Lucy said they drove around trying to locate the home, which could be identified from a lamp and flowers that were visible in the photo.

She added: "We managed to find the house. I knocked on the door and there were two people there." Lucy claimed the two people explained Jay had gone out for a cigarette before going back in and saying he wanted to go home.

She added: "They told me he'd spoken to the next door neighbours and they'd told him there was a bus every 10 minutes back down to Los Cristianos.

"The bus stop was right next to the house. So obviously if he'd gone to get the bus he wouldn't have got lost because it [the stop] was visible from the front door."

Lucy said "there are so many questions that are unanswered" as she added: "I can't understand why he would come out of the house and then decide he was going to walk. I think he maybe set off walking with battery and had not realised how far the walk actually is."

Jay's mum, Debbie Duncan, has flown out to Tenerife to assist with the search in any way she can. In an interview with ITV, Debbie broke down in tears as she said she wants her son to be found.

She said: "It's an absolute living nightmare, it's like a dream, it's like it's not happening. I just wouldn't wish this on anybody. I want my baby back."
