The disappearance of Jay Slater prompted This Morning presenter Ben Shepherd to reveal that his son, who is the same age, is also currently travelling abroad.

Jay, 19, travelled to Tenerife with friends Lucy and Brad to attend the three-day NRG festival. On Sunday night Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, stayed out with some new friends while Lucy and Brad went back to their apartment.

The following morning, at around 8.50am, Jay called Lucy to say he had missed the bus back and was going to walk 11 hours to their apartment. His phone battery had one per cent and Jay told Lucy he "needed a drink". He hasn't been seen since.

Jay's disappearance was discussed on today's This Morning on ITV during the segment where the presenters talk about the news. Ben Shepherd revealed his son, who is the same age as Jay, is also currently travelling.

"I've got a son who's travelling at the moment who's 19, same age as Jay," Ben said. "We're constantly checking in 'make sure you stay with your phone, don't wander off, don't get lost'.

"It's the hope we'll get some good news. His mum Debbie is desperately worried."

Nick Ferrari, who joined the presenters on This Morning, said he hopes there is a "better outcome" in Jay's case than in the recent disappearance of TV doctor Michael Mosley who was found dead on the Greek island of Symi after going missing.

Nick said: "It is part of rearing children that you let them go off and have their first holiday. My children are a bit older but I can remember both instantly, I think I hugged them as hard as I've ever done when they came home.

"As if it's not bad enough for the mum Jay needed water and his phone was almost out of battery. Let's not say there were hoax sightings, let's say false, but they've been eliminated.

"Let's hope this has a better outcome than that a couple of weeks ago."

This Morning presenter Cat Deeley then added: "Your heart just goes out to Debbie when you see how upset she is."
