Jay Slater search update including details about Tenerife NRG festival he attended

The search for missing Jay Slater is continuing after the 19-year-old vanished while on holiday. What should have been a weekend of summer fun, ended in fear for his loved ones.

Jay - from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire - was enjoying his first holiday away without his family. He had attended the New Rave Generation (NRG) music festival in Tenerife.

A Snapchat video showing the missing teenager looking carefree and smiling in the sunshine has been shared widely by loved ones in a desperate bid to find him. The morning after the clip was filmed, his friend Lucy received a worrying phone call from the apprentice bricklayer.

He told how he was lost after finding himself on a different part of the island with another friend, Mirror Reports. Jay said he was attempting to make his way back to their accommodation by foot - a journey which would have taken him 11 hours.

It was at this point that his phone died. As the search for him continues, here we look at the festival he went to overseas.

Dancing until dawn and 'three nights of raves'

NRG promised a 'weekend of electrifying music, stunning visuals, and innovative productions' for its r 'first-ever Tenerife Weekender Festival'. It launched with an opening party at Xanadu from 6pm to 2am.

The next day, revellers relaxed at a pool party held at 'legendary' The Beach at Hard Rock Hotel, followed by an afterparty at Xanadu. On the third and final day, festivalgoers enjoyed 'outdoor raving' at a closing party at Papagayo Beach Club.

Add-on events advertised outside the standard package included boat parties on Friday and Sunday, as well as an NRG BDL Coffeeshop Takeover. But, its is understood this particular event did not take place due to logistical reasons.

The vibe of the festival is young, energetic and vibrant. Music from the likes of I Hate Models, Reboot DJs, and Black Traffic features.

Tenerife Weekender tickets went on sale in January for €299 (£250) plus booking fee. Many rushed to social media to share their experiences of the 'insane' weekend festival, unaware of the tragedy that had unfolded.

One said: "Unreal weekend, the next years gunna tire in waiting for the next one." Another declared: "Best weekend of my life."

Instagram criticism

NRG has since shared a missing person alert for Jay via Instagram stories, both in Spanish and English. The alert, which features a photo of Jay, reads: "We share your concern for Jay Slater from Lancashire who was on the island for NRG Tenerife this weekend and has been reported missing.

"He was last heard from by friends at around 8:50 am on Monday, June 17, when he is believed to have been near the village of Masca. We have been working in the background from the first reporting of this.

"Local authorities are coordinating a search, and we are in touch with Jay's family and friends who have issued an appeal for information. Anyone who may be able to help and is in Tenerife should contact the emergency services on 112."

Some Instagram followers criticised NRG for not sharing a post as well as a story, however, with one person said: "They're more concerned about negative publicity."

Another person commented: "Came here expecting a post, surely you could post something that would have other attendees aware who might have seen him?" A spokesperson for NRG Tenerife said: "We share the widespread concern for Jay and are continuing to support his friends and family on the ground in Tenerife.

"Local authorities are coordinating a search around the area of his last known location and anyone in Tenerife with information which could help to find him should call the emergency services on 112."
