Close friends of missing teenager Jay Slater have made the decision to return home, despite ongoing search efforts for their pal.

Jay had been enjoying a holiday in Tenerife with his friends Lucy Law, 18, and Brad Hargreaves, 19, attending the NRG festival. The trio were last seen having a good time at Papagayo nightclub in Playa de las Americas on the night before Jay's disappearance.

The friends have since left the Spanish island and returned to the UK. It is understood that Lucy came back last week, while Brad and his mother Rachel, who has been actively participating in the search for Jay via a Facebook page she manages, arrived home on Sunday.

The Hargreaves family have so far chosen not to issue any statements.

Lucy revealed that she was the last person known to have spoken to Jay, who told her he was lost, thirsty and his phone battery was down to 1%, before he disappeared without a trace in Tenerife. Despite the police accepting this account, several online trolls have criticised and harassed the teenager, leading Lucy to deactivate her Facebook account.

However, she briefly returned to social media earlier this week after coming back to the UK, as reported by The Daily Star. She posted a selfie of her and Jay on Instagram, accompanied by a crying emoji and a blue heart, but this post has since been taken down.

Glen Duncan, the uncle of missing teenager Jay, has flown back to the UK amidst mounting frustration over the search for his nephew. Speaking previously to Sky News from Santiago del Teide in Tenerife, he conveyed the family's rising "despair", yet expressed their enduring hope of finding Jay, according to The Mirror.

In his words: "So far we've just been in touch with the British consulate out here who have been saying it's still a live investigation, we have just got to sit tight. It's just adding to the despair really."

Jay, hailing from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, vanished after attending a rave on the holiday island with two other Brits and staying overnight at a remote village Airbnb. This was his first time abroad.

He last reached out on Monday, June 17, attempting to make his way back to Los Christianos where he had been vacationing with pals Lucy and Brad.
