Jay Slater's friend posts poignant new photo of missing teenager

One of Jay Slater's best friends has published a new poignant picture of the 19-year-old - almost three weeks since he went missing.

Lucy Law, who was also one of the last people to speak to Mr Slater, posted a photo of the teenager with a crying emoji face and a blue heart.

At 8.50am on Monday 17 June, Ms Law and Ms Slater had a phone call in which he said he was lost, needed water and that his phone was on 1% battery.

He was reported missing shortly after.

The teenager had been at a music festival on the Sunday evening when he left with two men and went to a remote rented holiday home in the village of Masca in Tenerife.

He was last seen setting off on a walk back to his accommodation in Los Cristianos - a journey of around 11 hours.

Police called off the land hunt on 30 June after 12 days.

A GoFundMe fundraiser for Mr Slater's family is close to reaching £50,000, with his mother Debbie Duncan saying she will use the money to support volunteers hunting for Mr Slater in the mountain.

Ms Duncan also said that "words cannot describe the pain and agony" she and her family are feeling about the teenager's disappearance.

Key questions around the disappearance

In a statement issued through the British overseas missing persons charity LBT Global, she said the family was "absolutely devastated" by his disappearance.

"Jay is a normal guy who is in his third year of an apprenticeship, and he is a very popular young man with a large circle of friends," she said.

"We are a very close family and are absolutely devastated about his disappearance.

"Words cannot describe the pain and agony we are experiencing. He is our beautiful boy with his whole life ahead of him and we just want to find him."
