Jay Slater's mum sends new heartbreaking message as she urges world to 'keep watching'

Jay Slater's heartbroken mother has issued a new heartbreaking message as the investigation into the disappearance of her son continues.

Despite the search being called off by Spanish police on Sunday (June 30), officers are still running a parallel investigation into what happened to the 19-year-old. The Civil Guard has said the case 'remains open', awaiting any further information that may lead to finding Jay.

Today (July 2), Jay's mother Debbie Duncan stressed it is 'important to keep the world watching'. And while 'trying to remain positive', she is terrified the search for her youngest son to 'lose momentum'.

The family is urging Spanish police to keep working on the case, with some mountain rescuers seen keeping up the search in the mountainous region where the teenager last stayed and was last seen. Speaking to Good Morning Britain, Debbie also added that she realises 'there are a lot of conspiracy theories'.

Spanish authorities have said that there is 'no current evidence of criminality' in the case of missing Jay Slater, believing at this stage that he was not the victim of a crime. However, authorities have added that this could change pending any new evidence.

Over the weekend, police said the near fortnight-long search, which has involved sniffer dogs, a helicopter and mountain rescue experts, had been closed around the Masca area, where Jay was last tracked. They said officers would continue to act on any tip-offs or other information that came in - but the active work that has been ongoing since June 17, when the 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer was reported missing, would now cease.

Confirmation of the dramatic development came less than 24 hours after a ‘last push’ operation involving around 30 police, firefighters and Civil Protection officers, along with a handful of volunteers, failed to find any trace of the 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire.

Jay, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, last spoke to his pal Lucy Mae Law at around 8am on Monday, June 17, after he had been to stay in a rental Airbnb with two people he had met on the island the night before. But the apartment was 'in the middle of nowhere' and Jay's phone ran out of battery as he said he set off to walk back the following morning. He has not been seen since.
