Andre Onana should not have been on the pitch to save Callum O’Hare’s penalty in Coventry City’s FA Cup semi-final shoot-out defeat to Manchester United.

That’s according to talkSPORT presenter Jeff Stelling who spotted something the United goalkeeper did towards the end of regulation time at Wembley.

Onana was cautioned by the referee for time-wasting, then immediately delayed the restart even further by taking a swig of water. Furious Stelling says that should have earned him a red card there and then.

"By the way, just one thing that never gets mentioned, gets overlooked, I just want to say Andre Onana shouldn’t have been on the field for the penalty shootout," Stelling said on talkSPORT.

"He’s been given a yellow card after 85 minutes by Rob Jones. And what does he do? He goes behind his goal, picks up his water bottle, takes a drink of water.

"If Rob Jones had had any bottle, he’d have shown him another yellow card immediately because the goalkeeper was taking the mickey out of the referee."

Onana went on to save O’Hare’s attempt which combined with Ben Sheaf’s miss meant the Premier League outfit survived an almighty scare to reach their second successive FA Cup final, where they will once again face Man City.

Onana was booked in the shoot-out – again for time-wasting – but the competition regulations mean his first yellow card wasn’t carried over.

That was the culmination of an eventful game which saw United go 3-0 up through goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes. However, the Sky Blues responded magnificently as Ellis Simms, O’Hare and Haji Wright made it 3-3.

Victor Torp thought he had won it in the last minute of extra time only to see his goal ruled out for offside.
