Jeffrey Wright has joined the cast of Michael Fassbender's upcoming TV drama The Agency.

The Paramount+ series, which is an English-language remake of French political drama Le Bureau des Légendes (aka The Bureau), will see Fassbender take on the role of a covert CIA agent named Martian, who is ordered to abandon his undercover life in America and return to London.

According to Deadline, Wright has been cast alongside the X-Men star as Henry, the director of operations and a mentor to Martian.

The Agency will follow Martian as he reignites his romance with "the love he left behind" after she suddenly reappears upon his return to London.

The official synopsis continues: "His career, his real identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage."

George Clooney will executive produce the series along with Grant Heslov, Fassbender and Joe Wright, who is also directing the show's first two episodes. Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth have penned all 10 episodes.

In other news, it was recently announced that Wright has been cast in The Last of Us season two.

The recently Oscar-nominated actor is set to reprise his role as villain Isaac Dixon, who he portrayed through motion-capture in the video game The Last of Us Part II.

Isaac is described as the "quietly powerful leader of a large militia group who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy".

Meanwhile, Fassbender is next set to star in director Steven Soderbergh's upcoming spy thriller Black Bag, alongside Cate Blanchett and Regé-Jean Page.

The film will be written by David Koepp, who previously collaborated with Soderbergh on 2022's Kimi.

The Agency will be premiering on Paramount+ later this year.
