Jefte to 'complete' Rangers transfer as fresh details emerge with Philippe Clement ready to land his man

Rangers are set to complete a deal for Jefte as Philippe Clement gets down to business.

The Light Blues have been admirers of the left-back since the turn of the year and they are now ready to get a deal over the line, reports well-respected transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. He states that the defender is on his way to take on his medical checks with the Ibrox club before putting pen to paper on a contract. Left-back has been a priority position for the Belgian boss with Borna Barisic set to leave the club.

The Croatia international is out of contract and is free to discuss a transfer to other clubs. Ridvan Yilmaz has impressed when fit on the left but he has had a number of injury concerns with Jefte bringing more depth and competition to the area once again for next season. Romano wrote on X: "Rangers are set to complete deal to sign Brazilian LB Jefté, confirmed and here we go Understand Jefté is on his way to complete the medical tests and sign the contract as new Rangers player. As revealed in January, Scottish side prepared it all for the summer window."

Clement spoke last week about not being daunted by work that lies ahead this summer as he bids to dethrone champions Celtic and reach the newly revamped Champions League. First on the agenda is the Scottish Cup Final against Brendan Rodgers' men this weekend before all focus turns to next season.

He said: “Of course it’s challenging. It’s easier when you can build more on this season. But with six players out of contract, you are already in a situation where it’s more difficult to do those things.

“We need to now create more stability in the club, create another model of recruitment. We’ve talked about that. You’ve seen it already in the January window. With no cash to spend, we still brought in young talented players.

“Mohamed Diomande has proven that he has potential to grow for the future. Oscar Cortes also. Fabio Silva with ups and downs and also not playing in his best position - but we need to continue in that way of recruiting. But we also need to keep as much experience in the building.”
