Jenna Bush Hager wasn't always the stylish morning show host she is now — in fact, as the Today show personality shared this week, she had her awkward moments.

On Monday, the former first daughter shared a throwback photo of her and her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush, at a White House Christmas party taken during the administration of her grandfather, President George H.W. Bush.

In the photo shared here, she can be seen alongside her grandfather, grandmother Barbara Bush and sister while wearing a yellow button-up shirt, dark floral tie and plaid skirt.

The throwback was raised during a segment on embarrassing outfits that aired Today with Hoda & Jenna. Co-host Bush Hager, 42, chimed in on the topic to say, “I have one outfit that really stands the test of time. And ‘stand the test of time’ means it's just hideous."

"The boy to the right is me," she joked. "In the tie and the mustard shirt."

Asked by Hoda Kotb if she chose her own outfit that day, Bush Hager said, “Yes. And this is what I just have said to my mother, in retrospect. First of all, a tie is sort of something that is not classic on a woman and won’t stand the test of time."

“It is a Christmas party at the White House, so it feels like the type of photo that you may want to look at time and time again,” Hager continued, adding: “And when I look at him, I just think, 'Who is he? Who is that little surfer boy?' And it's me."

"The fact that she let me wear a kilt and a mustard shirt with a tie from the Limited Too, mind you,” Bush Hager said, adding: "She didn't control me ... She let my freak flag fly," of her mother, former first lady Laura Bush.

The Bush twins helped Sasha and Malia Obama, for instance, transition into life at the White House after Barack Obama's 2008 election.

"We gave them a tour of the White House," Hager said in an appearance on The Dr. Oz Show in 2020. "We showed them what was our bedrooms, which was going to become their bedrooms. We just had such a beautiful day because, really, we have so much more in common than what divides us — especially the kids."

She continued: "We saw ourselves in those precious little girls because when our grandfather become president, we were their age. So we knew what was magical about the White House."
