Jeremy Corbyn wishes Glastonbury headliner Stormzy "a great set"

Jeremy Corbyn took to Twitter to send words of encouragement to Stormzy, who is gearing up to take the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury this weekend.

In response to a tweet from the grime artist - which saw him admit to feeling “overwhelmed” at the prospect of becoming the first black artist to headline the legendary music festival - the Labour Party leader wrote: “Have a great set tonight.

“It's thoroughly deserved and everyone watching Glastonbury will no doubt enjoy every minute of it.”

In the initial post, the Big For Your Boots hitmaker detailed how much it meant to him to be the second youngest solo act to ever headline Glastonbury, after David Bowie who was the weekend’s top act when he was just 24-years-old back in 1971.

“I’m overwhelmed with emotions, this is the most surreal feeling I’ve ever experienced,” the 25-year-old rapper said. “I feel my entire life has lead to this moment.

“Can’t explain or fathom what this all is but I am 100% sure this is all God and his favour,” he continued.

“Giving him all the glory. Thank you to Emily & Mike Eavis for believing in me I can’t wait to see you and hug you both thank you so much.”

Corbyn and Stormzy have been unlikely pals since the latter shared his support for the former during his 2017 general election campaign.

Over the years, the pair have regularly crossed paths, like when Corbyn presented Stormzy with the accolade for best solo artist at last year’s British GQ Awards.

Other artists descending upon Worthy Farm in Somerset over the next few days include Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Years & Years, Janelle Monae, Sheryl Crow, Janet Jackson and Miley Cyrus.

The Killers and The Cure are co-headliners.
