Jeremy Renner is said to have undergone surgery after suffering a blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries in a snow plough accident.

More details have emerged from the accident that the Marvel star, 51, suffered while clearing snow from outside his family home in the area around Lake Tahoe, Nevada, which has had heavy snow falls.

Earlier, it had been reported that on Sunday he had lost a large amount of blood, with a neighbour telling TMZ that the plough had run over his leg.

Now, Hawkeye actor Renner is said to have suffered "chest and orthopaedic injuries" and had surgery yesterday.

According to Metro, his reps said: "We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, January 2nd 2023.

"He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.

"Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families.

"They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans."

The Lake Tahoe area was hit by a heavy snow storm on New Year's Eve, leaving a reported 35,000 homes without power, and Renner is said to have been trying to clear enough snow to allow his family to get out of their home.

In December, he had tweeted about the tough weather conditions, sharing photos of a car completely buried in snow, captioned: "Lake Tahoe snowfall is no joke #WinterWonderland".

His neighbour is said to have applied a tourniquet to his leg to stem the blood loss and he was airlifted to hospital.

An earlier statement from Renner's reps read: "We can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather related accident while ploughing snow earlier today.

"His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care."
