Jermaine Dupri Responds to 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show Socks Going Viral: 'Let's Talk About It'
Dupri performed with Usher on Sunday while wearing Louis Vuitton socks that the internet compared to children's clothing
Most eyes were on Usher during the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show — but some people were fully tuned into guest star Jermaine Dupri and his socks.
Yes, his socks.
Dupri, 51, who hyped up the crowd before Usher launched into "Confessions" and "Burn," sent the internet into a tizzy with his outfit, specifically his socks.
The rapper wore a black shorts suit with black loafers — and that meant his white socks were on full display. X (formerly Twitter) was quick to respond to the above-the-ankle socks, comparing them to something a child would wear.
One X user asked why Dupri had "bobby socks on," while another X user simply dropped a bunch of pictures of ruffly kids' socks in comparison.
Yet another person wrote, "Why does Jermaine Dupri have ruffly socks on like me as a 3 year old on Christmas."
Following all the jokes, Dupri posted to Instagram on Monday to show off the socks in question, shutting everyone down with the Louis Vuitton logo. "Haaa!! ok I ain’t have time for y’all last night I was too drunk, me and my homies performed at the Super Bowl!" he wrote. He added that the jokes were "funny as hell" and tagged Pharrell Williams, the current creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton.
He wasn't done, though. Dupri came back hours later with a screenshot of the Spotify charts (and another shot of his sock) on Instagram. He wrote, "U wanna talk about the socks let’s talk about,I got 5 songs in the TOP 10, Let’s Talk About It !!"
Dupri was pointing to the Usher tracks he worked on with the "My Boo" artist, who saw his songs climb the charts after the Halftime Show on Sunday in Las Vegas.
Dupri also spoke to Entertainment Tonight on Monday, telling the outlet, "It's really, really funny but, you know, them Louis Vuitton socks I had on — I don't know what everybody talking about."
Beyond the viral moment, though, he told ET that it was "amazing" to be on the stage with his colleagues who have become his close friends over their years working together.
"It's amazing to be up there with your friends and to be up there with people that you basically started," he said. "When we first worked, [it was] the first time he ever had a No.1 record so to be up there was... definitely, definitely amazing."
Usher was also joined on stage by Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Lil Jon, Ludacris and Will.i.am.
