Jessica Simpson reveals tummy tuck horror after contracting infection
Jessica Simpson has revealed she spent nine days in hospital after contracting an infection following a tummy tuck.
The 39-year-old mother-of-three said she was so ashamed of her stretch marks and loose skin after the birth of her first two children she wouldn’t let husband Eric Johnson see her naked and wore a white T-shirt to hide her body even in the shower.
Simpson revealed in an excerpt of her upcoming memoir Open Book obtained by RadarOnline that in 2015 she underwent cosmetic surgery, but was warned by a doctor, “You could die,” if she did not take action to address her liver levels in preparation for the operation. The actress has previously detailed her battle with alcoholism.

She wrote: “This surgery was more involved. There was a sense that something was going to go wrong from the get-go, even though I stopped drinking to prepare.”
She went on: “It did not go well. I got an infection – colitis – and was vomiting so much I thought I was going to bust my sutures.”
The singer was rushed to hospital where she remained for nine days, while, “doctors talked seriously about me needing a blood transfusion.”
Speaking about her decision to have the operation in the first place, Simpson said: “The surgery wasn’t for weight loss. I weighed 107 lb when I planned the surgery. I wanted to get rid of the stretch marks and loose skin left sagging from my back-to-back pregnancies.
“I was so ashamed of my body at this point... I couldn’t bear to look at myself.”

Simpson admitted that after recovering from the procedure, “I felt like myself again.” But she admitted, “plastic surgery does not cure what’s inside. Really, it’s about how you feel emotionally.”
Simpson began dating American football star Eric Johnson, 40, in 2010 and they became engaged later that same year. They married in 2014 and have three children – daughter Maxwell, seven, son Ace, six and daughter Birdie, born in March 2019.
