Jet2 has issued a warning to passengers who have flights booked during the school holidays, urging them to arrive at the airport early enough for their flight.

The airline has advised people with flights booked to aim to arrive at least two hours before the scheduled departure time. This advice comes ahead of the peak travel season, including the school summer holidays.

Anyone who has travelled during busy seasons will know that long queues can form, especially when people don't adhere to airport security rules and cause delays for others behind them. Even just dropping off bags can take longer if airlines' hand luggage rules aren't followed - these rules can vary so it's recommended to check before heading to the airport.

A warning on the Jet2 website reads: "Please check this section of the website at least 12 hours before your flight for the latest flight information. Customers are advised to arrive at their departure airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time."

"In the event of any flight delays further information can be found by using the above search panel by entering your flight number or route. As a reminder check in desks will close 40 minutes before your scheduled departure time.", reports the Mirror.

"Rest assured, in the event of flight disruption our dedicated Operations teams are always working hard behind the scenes at our UK-based HQ to get you on your way as soon as possible."

For a more effortless journey when travelling, passengers should also adhere to Jet2's hand luggage regulations. Current rules allow for one piece of hand luggage to be taken on board free of charge, provided it weighs no more than 10kg and does not exceed dimensions of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, inclusive of any wheels or handles.

If it surpasses these limits, it will need to be stowed in the aircraft hold which might incur additional charges.

A small item, such as a handbag, laptop bag or airport purchase, is also allowed onboard as long as it can fit under the seat positioned in front. However, the consumption of any alcohol purchased prior or at the airport during the flight is strictly prohibited.

Previously, a spokesperson for Jet2 clarified to the Mirror that: "All hand luggage is carried in the cabin at our discretion, and we reserve the right to check it into the aircraft hold for operational or capacity reasons. If this happens, make sure you take all valuable items (including travel documents, money, medication, keys, spare lithium batteries, and any electronic items containing lithium batteries) and carry these with you in the cabin."
