Holidaymakers heading to popular hotspots this week are being warned of potential delays. Jet2 has issued an alert on its website about possible air traffic control slot delays from July 1 - July 3.

The warning comes amid thunderstorms in the Eastern Mediterranean, which could impact flights to and from the Balearic Islands.

In an update on its website, Jet2 said: "We are currently experiencing some Air Traffic Control slot delays on flights that are due to arrive, depart or fly across the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands, this is due to adverse weather conditions (Thunder Storms) in many parts of Eastern Europe."

The airline added: "If you are currently on holiday and experiencing bad weather, please allow plenty of time to get to the airport and allow for potential bad road conditions on route.", reports Birmingham Live.

Jet2 reassured travellers that its UK-based operations team is 'working hard' to minimise disruption.

However, the airline warned that delays are still possible for passengers travelling to or from the affected areas.

The notice continued: "All Jet2.com flights are operating. Where possible we will board flights as close to on time as possible, this will allow us to to achieve a departure as soon as we are given clearance from Air Traffic Control. We apologise in advance if this causes an extended wait on board before you depart. Our Friendly Red Team and Crew will keep you updated."

Passengers are advised to check the airline's website for the latest travel information. Jet2 also urged customers to ensure contact details are up to date in the 'Manage My Booking' section of your account, as you may be sent an email or text message if you're likely to be affected by delays.
