When it comes to packing your suitcase for a holiday, there's a minefield of rules and regulations to navigate.

From baggage size and weight restrictions to the specifics of what you can pack, it seems airlines are becoming increasingly strict with their luggage allowances. We have looked at seven comment items and their rules for popular airlines such as Jet2, Ryanair, Tui and easyJet.

Naturally, each airport across the UK and globally has its own set of rules regarding what is permitted and what isn't. So, it might be worth jotting these down for your next trip.

Luckily, the experts at Haypp are on hand to help. They've examined some of the most frequently misunderstood packing rules that people often get wrong, potentially leading to missed flights, reports the Express.

Vapes

The rules around packing vapes can be somewhat confusing. However, it appears that vape devices and e-cigarettes should only be packed in carry-on luggage.

Remember, you're allowed a maximum of 20 batteries. Additionally, refills and e-liquids must also be kept in hand luggage, with a maximum bottle size of 100ml, in line with the 100ml rule enforced at most airports.

Both of these items should be packed in your hand luggage and not in your checked-in baggage. This is due to the lithium batteries contained within the vape. However, if airport security discovers these items in the wrong place, they may be confiscated.

Electrical devices

Items such as laptops or hairdryers, which most of us take abroad, have to be removed from hand luggage and placed in a separate screening tray when you go through airport security. If you're planning on flying to the USA anytime soon, then you must also ensure that any electrical devices are charged and can be switched on upon request.

Frozen breast milk

As for breast milk, you're probably aware that the rules on food and liquids differ when it comes to baby food and milk. You can carry breast milk in hand luggage.

However, it gets complicated as you can't carry frozen breast milk in hand luggage at all. Instead, you can either pack the frozen breast milk in hold luggage or bring cooling gel packs to keep the milk cold for the flight.

Cigarette lighters

Cigarette lighters are allowed but you can only take one per person. If you do plan to take a lighter then this should be put inside a clear liquid bag and should be kept inside the bag for the duration of the flight.

You can't put lighters inside hold luggage at all.

Food

Contrary to popular belief, you can bring your food to the airport. This is even better if you want to keep costs low and avoid paying for an overpriced sandwich at the airport.

This will include solid food such as a sandwich and snacks which are allowed. Some foods that are spreadable like jam or hummus are not allowed though as they count towards your liquid allowance.

Depending on your destination, you may need to consume or dispose of any uneaten food before landing due to customs regulations. However, if it's for in-flight consumption, you're good to go.

Sporting goods

Many people enjoy embarking on sports-related trips. However, it appears that numerous sporting items must be packed separately and checked in.

This is because they could potentially be used as weapons. For instance, cricket bats, wickets, and any spiked shoes or boots must be checked in.

Hair dye

While many people plan to have their hair done before going on holiday, some people might desire an extremely fresh colour upon arrival. However, it turns out that hair dye is prohibited on aircraft as it contains hazardous chemicals.

So, it might be wise to schedule those salon appointments well in advance.
