Jimmy Fallon Extends ‘Tonight Show’ Tenure Through 2028

NBC has now locked in both of its late night hosts for several more years.

Jimmy Fallon has renewed his deal with NBCUniversal, which will keep him hosting The Tonight Show through 2028. Fallon’s renewal comes a month after Seth Meyers re-upped at NBC, keeping him at Late Night for four more years. Both hosts recently passed the 10-year mark at their respective shows.

“For nearly 30 years, Jimmy Fallon has brought laughter into the homes of millions and charmed audiences from the stages of 30 Rock,” said NBCUniversal Media Group chairman Mark Lazarus in a statement. “It’s been a privilege to witness Jimmy at the helm of the The Tonight Show, and we’re thrilled to see what innovations he and the incredible staff will deliver in the years to come at the network.”

Said Fallon, “For nearly 30 years, I’ve brought laughter into the homes of millions and charmed audiences from the stages of 30 Rock. It’s been a privilege to be at the helm of the The Tonight Show, and I’m thrilled to see what innovations me and the incredible staff will deliver in the years to come at the network. No, I’m not changing my quote. Tell Mark to change his.”

Fallon took over from Jay Leno as host of The Tonight Show in 2014, following five years at Late Night. He was also a castmember on Saturday Night Live from 1998-2004, co-hosting “Weekend Update” with Tina Fey for the final three years of his time there. Last year, Fallon faced allegations of creating a “toxic workplace” at The Tonight Show, as detailed in a Rolling Stone story. He apologized to the show’s staff for his past behavior, saying he wants the show to be “fun” and “inclusive for everybody.”

Universal Television and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video produce The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Michaels executive produces, and showrunner Chris Miller and Gerard Bradford are producers.
