Kimmel sends Twitter into meltdown as he contacts Trump LIVE from Oscars

US President Donald Trump was eerily silent on Twitter during the Oscars but that didn’t stop him from being the centre of attention on his favourite social media platform.

The micro-blogging site went into meltdown when Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel tweeted the American President live during the show and as if that wasn’t enough, he promptly followed it up by telling Trump that : ‘#merylsayshi’.

Jimmy got out his phone on stage and told the audience: “We’re more than two hours into the show and Donald Trump hasn’t tweeted at us once and I’m starting to get worried about him.”

His tweets got over 100,000 retweets in less than five minutes and although Trump has yet to respond, fans of Kimmel held a meme party on the thread.

The Late Night host continued to reference Trump throughout the event and showered praise on Meryl – who Trump called ‘overrated’ – in his opening monologue.

He said: “One actress has stood the test of time for her many uninspiring and overrated performances is Meryl’s 20th Oscar nomination… she wasn’t even in a movie this year, we just wrote her name in out of habit.

“Nice dress by the way… Is that an Ivanka?”
