Joel Dommett is planning to be "tanned and ripped" when he returns from filming 'Survivor' in the Dominican Republic.

The comedian, 37, cannot wait to front the rebooted UK version of the show, and he is hoping to use some of his downtime from filming to hit the hotel gym and work on his physique.

He told the 'Table Manners' podcast: “I feel real pleasure that the BBC have trusted me with it, it’s a big show. And it’s a lovely holiday. The hotel’s got a gym.

“I’ll come back tanned and ripped, so my wife will not leave me when I get back.

“If it doesn’t go well, it’s my fault.”

The revived show will follow a similar format to the US version, which sees 20 marooned castaways form tribal groups as they tap into their animal instincts to survive.

Described as "the ultimate strategic and social game", contestants will be put through their paces as they take part in gruelling challenges, testing their limits physically and mentally.

The show will see contestants deprived of their creature comforts and battling for food and shelter, where they can earn rewards and win immunity.

The aim of the game is to survive the tribal council, who will vote out a member every week, and the sole survivor will take home a cash prize of £100,000.

Joel previously said: "I’m the new host of the UK‘s 'Survivor'! I can't believe it!

"A huge thank you to the BBC for trusting me with this. It’s such a hugely popular format all over the world and I’m super excited to help bring it to our sweet little country. Let the tribal councils begin!"
