Joey Barton posts photo wearing CELTIC top on Old Firm day but backs Rangers for title

Rangers flop Joey Barton has backed his old side to go on and win the title after yesterday's draw. That's despite posting a picture of him wearing a CELTIC top.

Barton's time at the Light Blues didn't go according to plan, lasting just months which took in a 5-1 derby thumping from the Hoops and a training ground bust-up with teammates. The former Manchester City was suspended by the club before having his contract ripped up in November after signing in the May.

Despite that, he has made plenty of positive comments about the club in the years since and was an interested spectator as they took on the Hoops yesterday, although claimed he was a neutral. The Scouser felt Philippe Clement's changes during the game were spot on and that the draw leaves Gers in pole position.

Barton had his say on everything from that to the refereeing team and commentary and pundits.

He wrote on social media: "What a fantastic game of football. Game of two halves. Philippe Clement got his change’s (sic) absolutely on the money. Sign of a really good coach.

"Rangers much improved in the 2nd period. I knew Cantwell and McGregor were having a bit. Good to see.

"Phenomenal atmosphere at Ibrox. Some strike from Tav for the pen and Matondo to equalise. Rangers should go and win fa’here.

"VAR? Soft but in modern game, I think it’s a pen. Correct decision Rangers disallowed goal for the foul on Celtic’s Japanese midfielder in the build up to 2nd goal. Referee superb.

"Comms and co-comms superb. Good analysis from Lennon and co in studio. Well done to all involved. Proper game for a neutral to watch.

"Just my opinion as a neutral football man."

That reference to neutrality is a nod to the two pictures he posted, one in a Rangers kit while playing for them and another with a Celtic top as a kid, revealing in the comments he would get them bought for him at Easter.
