All About Joey King's Parents, Jamie and Terry King
Joey King's parents raised her in Simi Valley, California
Joey King comes from a family full of love and support.
Unlike their daughter, Jamie and Terry are not involved in the entertainment industry, but that didn’t stop them from making sure Joey had a flourishing career as an actor. Joey broke into the spotlight in 2010 after starring alongside Selena Gomez in the family comedy Ramona and Beezus.
“My mom and I cried with tears of joy [when I got the part],” Joey told Seventeen Magazine.
Jamie and Terry share three daughters: Kelli, Hunter and Joey, who all grew up to be actors. Though Jamie and Terry had no acting experience of their own, they encouraged each of their daughters to follow their dreams, with Jamie spending most of her time at home with her girls.
Terry leads a rather private life, but Jamie can be seen supporting her daughters and sharing details of life via her Instagram account, which has over 34,000 followers.
“This little nugget just got NOMINATED for an EMMY for LEAD actress in a limited series!!!!!!!” Jamie wrote in 2020 of Joey’s performance in The Act. “I’m the proudest I could ever be @joeyking !!!!!!!!!!!!!”
So, who are Joey King's parents? Here's everything to know about Jamie and Terry King.
Terry was an arm wrestler
Joey’s father leads a rather private life, though he notably used to be a popular arm wrestler.
In the 1987 Sands International Armwrestling Championship, Terry placed second in the men’s right 151-170 lbs division. He served as a consultant for Sylvester Stallone in the sport.
They welcomed Joey in 1999
Joey was born on July 30, 1999, in Los Angeles to Jamie and Terry. She grew up in Simi Valley, away from the heart of Hollywood, as neither of her parents were previously involved in the entertainment industry. However, at a young age, it was clear that Joey was meant for the spotlight.
At age 4, Joey starred in a Life Cereal commercial, marking the beginning of her flourishing career as an actor. In 2006, she was featured in two episodes of the Disney Channel hit series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, but she arguably struck gold when she landed a starring role opposite Selena Gomez in Ramona and Beezus.
Upon hearing that she would be playing Ramona in the 2010 comedy, Joey celebrated the moment with her mother Jamie.
“I was very excited to find out that I was going to be Ramona because she's been around for over 50 years,” she told Seventeen Magazine, adding that when she found out the news “my mom and I cried with tears of joy!”
Joey learned a lot from her self-proclaimed “third sister,” Selena, when working on the film. The two even got their mothers together to celebrate Mother’s Day.
“Selena's extremely humble and I want to be just like her when I'm a teenager,” Joey said at the time at age 10. “We were inseparable - we went bowling together, to movies, to dinner, to Starbucks. We even took our moms out to lunch together on Mother's Day!”
Joey is Jamie and Terry’s youngest child
The Kissing Booth star is the youngest daughter of Jamie and Terry. Her parents welcomed their first child Kelli King on March 22, 1992, in L.A. A little over a year later Jamie gave birth to their second daughter, Hunter King, on Oct. 19, 1993.
Like their star-studded sister, both Kelli and Hunter are actors. Kelli began acting at the age of 6 in the television series Rude Awakening. She was also featured in a 2006 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, with her acting credits capping off in 2012.
Hunter notably is a three-time nominee and two-time Daytime Emmy winner. She won the Daytime Emmy for outstanding younger actress in a drama series for her work on The Young and the Restless consecutively in 2014 and 2015.
Jamie has a tattoo dedicated to her daughters
Jamie is always expressing her love for her three daughters in any way possible, and she even has a tattoo of their initials in the order of their birth (KHJ) on her finger to showcase the permanent extent of her love for her children.
Joey spent quarantine with her parents
During an August 2020 profile with Cosmopolitan, Joey revealed that she returned back home to L.A. to quarantine with her family amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Don’t worry, everybody’s wearing masks and gloves,” she said. “2020 is a piece of s---.”
Jamie shares her love for her daughters on social media
Though Terry keeps his life out of the spotlight, Jamie loves to share her life on social media. Her Instagram account is full of tributes to her daughters.
“Happiest of Birthdays @joeyking,” she wrote on an Instagram post for Joey’s birthday in 2023. “The amount of joy you bring to my life is beyond measure!!! You are the kindest, funniest, remarkable in every way human, and I love you with all my heart!!!”
Jamie makes sure to promote all of Joey and Hunter’s upcoming projects across her Instagram as well — and Joey returns the favor. At the 2022 premiere of Bullet Train, Joey’s grandmother Elaine Farrar shared an image from the night on her social media with Elaine, Jamie and Joey's aunt Stephanie Farrar posing with her costar Brad Pitt.
"My Mom, Grandma and Aunt with BP," Joey wrote on her Instagram Story, resharing the image. "Best pic of the night."
