John Barrowman says this year's 'I'm A Celeb' stars aren't relatable enough

John Barrowman has said he thinks this year’s I’m A Celebrity campers need to cry more to be relatable for viewers.

The new Dancing On Ice judge was a fan favourite in the 2018 series of the ITV contest, and dropped in on spin-off show I’m A Celebrity: Extra Camp to give his views on how the current campmates could emulate his success.

Barrowman, known for his “Fabulous!” catchphrase on the show, said he thought the main problem for this year’s celebrities was that they weren’t very relatable.

After the show’s launch episode, he said of the contestants: "I think we need to experience them, I don't really want to say more relatable?

"Maybe a little more vulnerable – sometimes they are a little shy, maybe too strong.

"I would like to see them out of their comfort zone, maybe some more tears."

This year’s famous campmates include Caitlyn Jenner, Nadine Coyle, Ian Wright, Jacqueline Jossa, Kate Garraway, Myles Stephenson, Roman Kemp, James Haskell, Adele Roberts and Andrew Maxwell.

In the opening episode, they were seen walking a plank from the top of a skyscraper, skydiving from a plane, and sorting through creepy crawlies to try to win the first challenge of being able to avoid a basic rations version of the camp.

Barrowman, who starred alongside Harry Redknapp, Emily Atack and Noel Edmonds in the last series, shocked viewers with his appearance on Extra Camp.

Despite staying looking fairly polished while in the jungle, he was barely recognisable, with a much shorter haircut that was grey and white rather than his usual lustrous brown.

He will be back on our screens as the newest judge on Dancing On Ice in the New Year, replacing Jason Gardiner.
