John Cleese jokes he 'killed' someone during A Fish Called Wanda screening

John Cleese has joked that he "killed" someone during a screening of A Fish Called Wanda.

Speaking on the latest episode of his GB News series The Dinosaur Hour, Cleese detailed going over to Denmark to screen the film to audiences.

Explaining the incident, Cleese said: "We killed a man. Kevin Kline and I killed a man in Denmark. He was a dentist, he had a huge laugh. A famous laugh. Very popular. It was in Aarhus, not a big town, but everybody knew him."

The Monty Python legend continued: "And he went to see Wanda and he started laughing about two minutes in and never stopped. They carried him out dead, he’d had a heart attack."

The 1988 comedy starred Cleese as a barrister seduced by a professional criminal looking to recover a lost diamond.

The hit film, which was the seventh highest grossing film worldwide in 1988 and also nominated for three Oscars starred Kevin Kline as the criminal mastermind, Jamie Lee Curtis as Wanda and Cleese's Monty Python colleague Michael Palin as a fish-loving robber.

Palin won a Bafta for his performance in the film while Kline won an Oscar.

Cleese has also been discussing the impact his career in comedy has had on people and how happy it makes him when people tell him of enjoying his work.

On The Dinosaur Hour, he says: I realised about ten years ago that making people laugh is kind of doing more than just making them laugh,’ he says. ‘When you do a Comic Con or something like that and people come up and say, 'Thanks for making me laugh all these years' it leaves a tear in the eye."

Cleese joined the controversial news network last year, praising it as a "free speech channel".

He recently criticised the network for hiring former prime minister Boris Johnson, calling him a "serial liar".

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Cleese wrote: “I can hardly believe that GB News will give this proven serial liar his own programme."
