John Goodman says he cringes looking back at his acting in 'Barton Fink'
John Goodman's favorite Coen brothers movie is "Barton Fink" but he feels he could have done better in certain scenes.
"A couple of things make me cringe," he told Business Insider.
He said he'd also like a do-over on his 1990s Babe Ruth biopic, "The Babe."
Of all the Coen brothers movies John Goodman has starred in, he says his favorite is 1991's "Barton Fink." However, that doesn't mean he's happy with everything he did in the movie.
In a recent chat for Business Insider's "Role Play" series, Goodman, 71, said he'd "love another shot" at "Barton Fink."
"A couple of things make me cringe," he said about the darkly comedic tale that stars John Turturro as a 1940s New York playwright who travels to Los Angeles to write screenplays for a Hollywood studio. Goodman plays his scene-stealing psychotic neighbor and earned a Golden Globes nomination for his performance.
"There's a couple of scenes with John that I would have changed," he said. "I think I'm a better actor now. I'd just do them differently."
Despite that, Goodman still loves the movie.
"It was all enjoyable and it was easy because everything was right on the page for me," he said. "Just show up and have a lot of fun."
Goodman added that he'd also like a do-over on his 1992 Babe Ruth biopic "The Babe."
"I wish I would have had six months for research," he said, looking back on his performance as the iconic baseball player. "I spent every day throwing left-handed, but then I learned he pitched side arm so I could have done that all over. But there's a lot of things about my performance that bothered me."
The actor is currently starring in the sixth season of ABC's "The Conners."
