Jon Stewart tears up honoring his late dog Dipper on “The Daily Show”: 'In a world of good boys, he was the best'

“My wish for you is one day you find that dog, that one dog,” he concluded. “It’s just… It’s the best.”

Jon Stewart ended Monday night’s episode of The Daily Show with an emotional tribute to his late dog, Dipper.

The late-night host broke down in tears and temporarily pulled out a box of tissues as he remembered his family’s three-legged Brindle Pitbull, who passed away on Sunday.

“In a world of good boys, he was the best,” Stewart said. “He used to come to The Daily Show everyday.”

In fact, Stewart revealed that the pup was an active member of “the OG Daily Show dog crew.” He added, “We’d come to tape this show, and Dipper would wait for me to be done. He met actors and authors and presidents and kings, and he did what the Taliban could not do, which is put a scare into Malala Yousafzai.”

The show then cut to a clip of Yousafzai turning away and hiding behind a cameraman after spotting Dipper excitedly coming toward her down a hallway when she was a guest on The Daily Show.

“Dipper passed away yesterday,” Stewart said, his voice breaking. “He was ready. He was tired, but I wasn’t. And the family, thank goodness, we were all together. We were all with him.”

“My wish for you is one day you find that dog, that one dog,” he concluded. “It’s just… It’s the best.”

The Daily Show's nightly Moment of Zen segment, which airs at the end of each episode, was also used to honor Dipper as the series cut to a video of the dog playing in the snow as credits rolled onscreen.
