Jonathan Majors to Receive Hollywood Unlocked’s Perseverance Award After Being Found Guilty of Assault

Well, in case we needed more proof cancel culture is fake, convicted assaulter Jonathan Majors was announced to be receiving the Perseverance Award from news outlet Hollywood Unlocked.

The fourth annual ceremony will be hosted by actress Tiffany Haddish, who was at the center of a child abuse lawsuit over a pedophile comedy sketch.

Both Haddish and Majors have alleged that their respective lawsuits have made them lose out on work. In the case of Hollywood Unlocked, though, they’re gaining awards.

Majors was found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in December 2023 after abusing ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Majors was sentenced to a 52-week, in-person domestic violence intervention program.

Majors was arrested on March 25, 2023 on charges of assault, strangulation, and harassment. The trial was delayed until November. Jabbari, 33, was hospitalized then with “minor injuries to her head and neck.”

Later accusations surfaced of toxic on-set behavior during “Magazine Dreams,” and a British filing came against Majors on multiple charges of assault stemming from various other accusers.

Majors told ABC News in January 2024 that he was in shock to be found guilty “based off the evidence” and that he “wish[ed] to God I knew” how Jabbari’s injuries were inflicted. He also said he was “absolutely shocked” by the verdict.

And Majors’ “perseverance” through both Hollywood and the legal system is now being awarded by Hollywood Unlocked in an awards ceremony taking place June 21 in Los Angeles. Per the press release as obtained by IndieWire, Perseverance Award is “given to an individual who has shown that no matter what adversity they face, they will continue to aspire to inspire.”

In addition to Majors, Christian Louboutin, Cardi B, Fat Joe, Da Brat, U.S. representative Jasmine Crockett, and civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will be celebrated.

Previous awardees, including Chlöe Bailey, Law Roach, Whoopi Goldberg, Babyface, Catherine Brewton, Floyd Mayweather, Kelis, Karen Bass, and Lizzo. Also per the press release, Tupac was posthumously honored since the awards ceremony is only in its fourth year.

The Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards highlight recipients in the Black community. The outlet was founded by talk show host Jason Lee.
