JonBenet Ramsey Limited Series in the Works From ‘Yellowstone’ Studios

One of the most infamous cold cases in recent history is set to become the subject of a scripted series.

MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios — the producers of Yellowstone and its assorted spinoffs — are developing a limited series about the killing of JonBenét Ramsey. The project is in its early stages and doesn’t have an outlet attached yet.

Writers Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach sold the project to MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and will be executive producers. Richard LaGravenese (Behind the Candelabra, Unbroken) will be the showrunner and will also executive produce.

The currently untitled series will “detail the mysterious death and the surrounding media frenzy in the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, a case that captivated an entire nation and left us with more questions than answers,” according to the show’s logline.

Ramsey, a 6-year-old child beauty pageant contestant from Boulder, Colorado, was found dead in her family’s home in December 1996. The case became a media sensation and focused intense scrutiny of the girl’s parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, whom Boulder police considered suspects. They were not charged with any crimes, however.

In 2006, Alexis Val Reich (known then as John Mark Karr) was arrested in Thailand and extradited to the United States after making a false confession to killing JonBenét. No evidence linked Reich to the crime. A convicted sex offender, Gary Olivia, has also repeatedly confessed to killing the child “by accident” but has not been charged.

LaGravenese is repped by CAA and LBI Entertainment.
