Jonnie Irwin’s fans called him an “inspiration” as he got stuck into a home renovation project amid his terminal cancer battle.

The A Place In The Sun star told fans last year that he had lung cancer and was determined to make the most of any time he had left with his wife Jess and their three sons – Rex, four, and three-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.

He has now launched into what looks like a big project that will see the windows and porch of his family’s home updated.

Irwin, 50, shared a video on Instagram as the refurb got under way, telling fans it was “not the prettiest of houses" yet and outlining his plans.

“Early days but, pretty exciting,” he added with a smile.

The TV star’s followers said he was “inspirational” and should be “so proud” of what he was doing for his family.

“You give anyone watching your posts strength when it should be us giving you strength,” one said in the comments section.

“Jonnie, this is what's driving you because it's your legacy for your family to enjoy for many years,” said another.

“You are a very inspirational man. We all love you for your strength and your home may not look the best on the street at the moment but it will when it's finished.”

Someone else said the presenter was a “superstar”.

“Keep going, push on through, get your energy from our love, so many people around the world are sending you love and healing and prayers for a miracle,” they added.

Irwin was told that he had terminal lung cancer – which has now spread to his brain – in 2020, and went public with his diagnosis last year.

He has since shared that he kept his illness quiet because he didn't want to lose work and didn't want people to treat him differently.
