Jordin Sparks tips herself to replace Katy Perry on American Idol
Jordin Sparks is keen to replace Katy Perry on 'American Idol'.
The 39-year-old pop star recently announced that she plans to quit the show after season 22 of 'American Idol', and Jordin has already taken to social media to put her name forward as Katy's potential successor.
Jordin, 34 - who won 'American Idol' back in 2007 and has subsequently become one of the show's most successful contestants - wrote on X: "Oh hiiii @AmericanIdol —I hear a seat opened up at the judges table! I’m putting my name in the hat! [waving emoji] (sic)"
Jordin put her name forward after Katy announced her 'American Idol' exit during a recent TV appearance.
The pop star - who joined the 'American Idol' judging panel in 2018 - said on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!': "I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for 'Idol'.
"I mean, I love 'Idol' so much. It’s connected me with, like, the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you know what I’m saying?"
Lionel Richie - Katy's 'American Idol' co-star - has subsequently come out in support of her decision, acknowledging that it "makes sense".
The veteran star admitted that Katy and himself are both at very different points in their lives and their careers.
Lionel, 74, said on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!': "We didn’t know about it, but it makes sense.
"In other words: The reason I love coming on the show with you and the reason I’m doing 'American Idol' is because I have 400 years of stories and a life in the music business. I have things that I’ve done."
