Owner Evangelos Marinakis is said to have “asked” super agent Jorge Mendes to “recommend” potential head coaches for Nottingham Forest.

There has been speculation about the future of Nuno Espirito Santo since the Reds secured Premier League safety last Sunday. The Portuguese has been linked with Bayern Munich and is also said to have clubs in his homeland and Spain monitoring his situation.

Forest, meanwhile, have been linked with other managers. Rumours about the club looking at ex-Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano have emerged.

A report in the Greek press now claims Marinakis is on the lookout for a new coach. According to Sportime, Marinakis has sought the help of Mendes - who also represents Nuno - as he “wants something else” with a change of direction in the dugout.

The gossip about Nuno’s future comes after he dropped a cryptic comment in last Friday’s pre-match press conference. Asked whether he hoped to be part of Marinakis’ grand vision for the club, he simply said: “I’m here now.”

Nuno replaced Steve Cooper at the helm last December and steered the Reds to top-flight survival despite having to contend with a number of challenges. He had to cope with a points deduction, refereeing controversies and several players being absent due to injuries and Africa Cup of Nations duty.

He has described it as his toughest season in management. After last weekend’s win over Burnley, he said: “When you ask me if it was hard, it was hard because we didn’t have the chance to build what is most important for me in football - the bond. Now we are starting to see that the players are trusting us and trusting each other.

“Definitely the most difficult. Now we need to rest. Everyone needs to rest because it was very tough. The players, the staff and the fans need to rest. Now is the moment to celebrate - really celebrate.”
