Josh Hutcherson Says Losing “Home Alone” Role as a Kid 'Was Really Hard': 'First Time That I Tasted Rejection
The actor recalled that it was "down to me and the other guy" for the lead in a 'Home Alone' sequel
Josh Hutcherson missed out on being left Home Alone.
During an edition of BuzzFeed's Puppy Interview video series, the actor, now 31, revealed that he auditioned for the lead in a Home Alone movie.
When asked if there's a role fans would be surprised he auditioned for, Hutcherson said, "Yeah, actually. When I was pretty young there was one of the Home Alones. I was probably, like, 11, I think maybe, when I auditioned for it."
"It got down between me and the other guy. That was, like, the first time that I tasted rejection. So that was really hard," The Beekeeper actor added, though he didn't mention which installment of the franchise he tried out for.
Macaulay Culkin famously starred as Kevin McCallister in the first two Home Alone movies, which were released in 1990 and 1992, when Hutcherson was born. Then, Alex D. Linz starred in 1997's Home Alone 3 (opposite Scarlett Johansson).

Hutcherson, who recently starred in the hit Five Nights at Freddy's movie, began as a child actor in movies like 2005's Kicking and Screaming and Zathura, 2006's RV and 2007's Bridge to Terabithia and more, before starring in the hit Hunger Games franchise.
During the BuzzFeed video, Hutcherson was asked if there's a character he would want to revisit.
He answered, "Just reliving the whole Hunger Games experience again; I would go back to Peeta in a heartbeat."
The film he's surprised to be recognized for often? "I think Zathura. I guess timing-wise, too, a lot of people that when they watched it they're like my age now, so in their 30s and stuff. It's really funny, they're like, 'Yo, Zathura was my movie, man! I loved you in that. I watched it like a hundred times!' "
