Joy Behar forgives 'brutal' Chris Christie feud because he's now Donald Trump's enemy

"The View" producer Brian Teta said Christie "didn't always leave happy" following his appearances on the show — until he mended things with Behar this week.

Joy Behar has two primary enemies in life: that Italian woman who wouldn't let her pee on a European train, and Donald Trump. Fortunately for Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey is no longer on Behar's list, as The View cohost recently revealed she's gotten past their decade-long feud that sparked after a tense clash at a 2014 comedy roast of fellow politician Brendan Byrne.

"I'm his biggest fan all of a sudden," Behar told The View producer Brian Teta on Wednesday's episode of the Behind the Table podcast (below), which premiered after Christie's appearance on the show earlier that day. "He didn't realize [in 2014], when you do a roast, [every guest] on the dais is also open season, so, I did many jokes about him, but it was right after that debacle with the George Washington bridge, so I was not his friend. But, today, I'm his friend, because an enemy of my enemy is my friend."

The 81-year-old said she feels "like best buds" with Christie now that the 2024 presidential hopeful appears to be the only Republican candidate who actively speaks out against the dangers of a second term for Trump, who's currently leading the polls heading into the Republican primaries.

"I [used to] have a lot of acrimony between me and Chris Christie," Behar continued, "as long as he sticks to attacking Trump."

Teta revealed that, after Wednesday's broadcast, Christie and Behar even exchanged phone numbers.

"He said, 'Call me anytime.' Oh my God, life is funny, isn't it?" Behar said. "When I did that roast years ago, that was brutal. I said to him, 'Don't you bully me.' He tried to take my notes away after I did several jokes on him."

Teta then reflected on Christie's past appearances on the show, and said he "didn't always leave happy" upon exiting, though he "left happy today," in the producer's estimation.

After Christie took a seat at the Hot Topics table on Wednesday, Behar was the first to greet him. "Lately you've been so good on Trump, you're like my ex-husband now. We had issues and now we don't anymore," she joked, before comparing their relationship to the divorce of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow. "It's good. They call that conscious uncoupling."

Before discussing heavy political issues like abortion and the contentious state of the 2024 presidential election, Christie gave Behar a lighthearted response: "No one's compared me to Chris Martin before," he quipped. "So, I'll take it!"

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. Listen to Behar discuss her relationship with Christie in the podcast episode above.
