Joy Behar says Catherine Deneuve asked if she was 'a lesbian' after she followed the star around “The View ”set
"She is the most beautiful thing you will ever see," the 81-year-old said of the French superstar.
Italian women don't stand a chance when The View cohost Joy Behar has to pee, but French superstars like Catherine Deneuve seemingly have an undeniable hold on the 81-year-old comedian's affections.
The longtime panelist revealed on Wednesday's episode of the Behind the Table podcast that she was so enamored with the Oscar-nominated Indochine actress (also known globally for her roles in classics like The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Belle du Jour) during the actress' past appearance on The View that she followed her around the set.
In response to producer Brian Teta's question about famous people who make her feel starstruck, Behar cited a few examples — including President Barack Obama — as well as Deneuve.
"In case you don't know who she is, go on your Apple TV and [search] The Last Metro. It's in French. It is the most fabulous film. She is the most beautiful thing you will ever see anywhere in this country, in the world," Behar said. "She was here, and I was following her around. At one point she said to someone, 'Is she a lesbian?' and I said, 'I am now.'"
Behar did not specify which date Deneuve appeared on The View, and the actress' IMDB credits list does not include the talk show. Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for The View and Deneuve for more information.
While Deneuve might have Behar's heart — who famously met her current husband, Steve, at a nudist colony — that one Italian lady Behar called a bitch on her 2023 European vacation, however, does not.
"The people are nice, here and there. I had to call one woman the b-word, but that's something else," Behar told her cohosts in April of last year, after returning from her journey.
"I said it in English because she wouldn't let me pee in the first-class lounge. I said, 'Please, let me just go!'" Behar continued. "I said, 'Listen, don't be a bitch.' She wouldn't let me go."
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. Listen to Behar discuss her Deneuve experience above.
