Arne Slot will no doubt look to welcome a new faces to Anfield before the new Premier League season kicks off. Liverpool continue to be heavily linked with some big names, like Riccardo Calafiori and Anthony Gordon, but it remains unclear whether new sporting director Richard Hughes will splash the cash.

While additions to the Reds squad is important, Slot will also want to keep his best players. Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent-Alexander Arnold all see their contracts expire next year.

The trio will, of course, be key to the launch of the new Liverpool head coach's project in Merseyside. So, with that being said, the ECHO has taken a look at the hottest news and transfer gossip.

Howard makes Klopp guarantee

Tim Howard believes he could persuade Slot's predecessor Jurgen Klopp to take the reins of the United States national team - and has offered to fly to Spain to hold talks with the former Reds boss about the role. Before the end of the season, the German revealed that he had informed Liverpool about his decision to step down in November, leaving higher-ups plenty of time to appoint the perfect heir in the summer.

In a column for the Daily Mail, the former Everton goalkeeper wrote: "After the disappointment of Copa America, after the United States lost to Uruguay and exited at the group stages, I will personally fly to Spain. I mean it.

"I know Klopp has only been retired a few weeks and I know he wants a break. But if we sat around his villa in Spain, I think I could lure him over here. 100 percent.

"The money is certainly there. So my pitch would be simple: he has a young group of players who can play progressive, front-foot soccer - exactly like his Liverpool teams. And in two years' time he can go to the biggest World Cup in history."

The ECHO says: "While I agree that Jurgen Klopp would do a great job as US head coach, I don't think he's at that stage in his career yet. I'd like to see him take on another domestic project before going international."

Koeman explains best Gakpo position

Ronaldo Koeman has explained how to get the most out of Cody Gakpo. Speaking to reporters following Netherlands' win over Romania in the last 16 of Euro 2024, the former Everton boss insisted that the Liverpool ace is a left-winger. It comes amid speculation the Reds could be interested in England man Gordon.

As quoted by the Express, Koeman said: "His position is on the left side because he is really dangerous when he gets one-on-one with the full-back. Inside and outside, he has his qualities.

"He is strong. He's playing at a great level this tournament. He's maybe been our most important player up to now and I hope the rest of my team can come up to his level."

The ECHO says: "Ronald Koeman has explained exactly why Cody Gakpo should only be playing on the left-wing from here on out. The Liverpool ace has been class at the Euros this summer and Arne Slot will be hoping that he can carry over his form into the new season. Essentially, the Reds boss could get himself a new left-winger - even if a deal for Anthony Gordon fails to materialise."
