Justin and Emily share two children: Maiya Grace and Maxwell Roland-Samuel.
Here’s everything to know about Justin Baldoni’s wife.
She’s from Uppsala, Sweden
Before making the move to the United States, Emily (née Foxler) was born on Aug. 3, 1984, in Uppsala, Sweden. Not much is publicly known about her early life, except that she realized she had a passion for acting in her adolescence.
“I met Emily not long after she moved from Sweden and she had an accent and I thought, ‘Soon as that accent goes away, she’s going to be a leading lady in American movies,’ ” director James Ward Byrkit said in an interview with Mandatory.com.
“I’m 100% Swedish and now you will probably hear [the accent,]” Emily added. “When people know [I’m Swedish] they’re like, ‘Ah, there it is.’ ”
She is an actress
Emily’s earliest acting credit dates back to 2005 in The Elephant’s Room short. By 2007, she was featured in one episode of How I Met Your Mother.
Her most notable credits include a role in Justin’s 2019 drama Five Feet Apart and the starring role in Byrkit’s 2013 mystery Coherence.
“I have been in L.A. for eight years and studied ever since, in features and also a lot of TV,” Emily said in a 2013 interview with Mandatory.com. “Jim and I worked together before so he called me and said that him and Alex [Manugian] had been working on this thing and that it was an experiment,” she added about Coherence.
Justin’s proposal to her went viral
Justin proposed to Emily in 2013 at Blu Jam Cafe, the site of their first date. Soon enough, video of the moment captured on YouTube went viral due in part to the complexity of the proposal.
“On April 13th I proposed to my girlfriend Emily at the restaurant where we had our first date,” Justin wrote in the caption of the YouTube video that has more than 14 million views. “I told her I was running late, had the restaurant opened just for her, and set up hidden cameras all around her. When she sat down at the table, there was a TV in front of her set to take her on a journey that would lead to the proposal of a lifetime.”
Throughout the video, Justin lip-synced to songs, generated a flash mob and proposed.
“I just kept telling myself, ‘This is not a proposal! This is not a proposal! It’s something else,’ ” Emily told Entertainment Tonight. “He’s the master of surprises. The master.”
She married Justin in 2013
Roughly three months after Justin and Emily’s proposal video went viral, the couple were married in Corona, California.
The love was running high during their wedding ceremony, with Justin exchanging a number of heartfelt words with his wife shared in a clip posted to Full Frame Cinema’s YouTube channel.
“I want to start off my vows to you with an apology: I’m sorry for all my faults, my shortcomings, my insecurities and my ego and for everything that I’ve ever done or said that’s hurt you and everything that I’ve brought to this relationship that hasn’t been pure,” Justin said. “With that apology also comes a promise. Emily, for the rest of my life, I will cherish you, I will appreciate you, I will listen to you, I will laugh with you [and] I will take care of you.”
In July 2024, the couple celebrated 11 years of marriage. Justin marked the special day with a post on Instagram, sharing a photo of the couple and a quote from the poet Rumi: "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there."
They share a daughter and a son
The couple announced that they were expecting their first child together in a short film titled Justin and Emily: The Surprise. The pregnancy announcement video accumulated more than 3 million views.
On June 27, 2015, Justin and Emily’s daughter Maiya Grace was born.
Filmmaking seems to be an integral part of the couple’s way of announcing special news because the parents announced Emily’s second pregnancy on May 19, 2017, in Justin and Emily: The Surprise Part 2 via Justin’s Wayfarer Studios YouTube channel.
On Oct. 18, 2017, they welcomed their son Maxwell Roland-Samuel Baldoni.
“Our little Maxwell Roland-Samuel Baldoni came into this world on Wednesday and showed us that it was possible for our hearts to double in size ... again,” they exclusively told PEOPLE.
“Maiya is so excited to have a baby brother and is already helping change his diapers and giving him tons of kisses,” Justin and Emily said. “We want to thank everyone for all the love and prayers. We are so grateful.”
She helped Justin launch Skid Row Carnival of Love
Aside from his numerous acting, producing and directing efforts, Justin founded the annual Skid Row Carnival of Love. The event, which took place each year in January, partnered volunteers with a homeless man or woman who lived near Skid Row as they went through a Carnival-experience together.
“We make food for 6,000 people. All my friends from various film catering services come together and we have a big bbq. At the end of the day, it culminates in a dance party with some of L.A.’s best DJs,” Justin told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019.
Emily helped Justin launch Carnival of Love, though the annual event was canceled in 2022 due to the pandemic.
Justin hopes his children grow up to be like her
In a 2019 cover for Mini magazine, Justin showed his gratitude for Emily’s impact on their two children.
“I hope they grow up and have much more of her than me,” the actor said. However, Justin does hope that they inherit one of his best qualities. “But I hope they have my sense of humor because I’m definitely funnier,” he added.
Emily, too, sang praises for her husband’s parenting approach.
“Justin has an incredible way of bringing magic to the smallest moments,” Emily explained. “The kids’ eyes light up whenever he comes into the room.”
She is very supportive of Justin's career
Emily has been by Justin's side since his days as a series regular on The CW's Jane the Virgin.
Most recently, she supported her husband at the New York City premiere of his highly-anticipated film It Ends With Us in which he stars opposite Blake Lively.
