Justin Timberlake Performs Acoustic Version of New Song 'Selfish' While 'Getting Over the Flu': Watch
The musician shared a self-shot clip of himself singing on Instagram Saturday
Justin Timberlake isn't letting an illness stop him from singing his latest hit.
The Grammy winner, 43, performed an acoustic rendition of his new single "Selfish" — complete with an admittedly "raspy voice" — on Instagram Saturday, after coming down with the flu.
In a self-shot clip, the former *NSYNC member could be seen wearing a cream-colored cardigan as he strummed an acoustic guitar and sang the song's first verse and chorus.
"Still getting over the flu which makes it silly to sing so excuse the raspy voice but messing around with an acoustic version of SELFISH," Timberlake wrote in his caption.
The stripped-down Instagram moment isn't the only time that the musician has performed "Selfish" in recent days.
The song, which he released on Jan. 25, has seen performances on Saturday Night Live, during a hometown gig in Memphis, alongside Jimmy Fallon and The Roots with classroom instruments and during a free show for fans at Irving Plaza in New York City.
Timberlake is set to release Everything I Thought It Was, his first new LP since 2018's Man of the Woods, on March 18. As he told Zane Lowe during an Apple Music 1 discussion about "Selfish" last week, he hopes the new album gives fans a "real" perspective on his life.
"I was able, on some of the songs, to look back at the past and have a real, not a refracted perspective of what it was because they always say ... you always hear that thing about, well, there's never any truth, there's just everybody's perspective of what happened," he said.
"But to really look at it and be able to metabolize and verbalize my perspective on it, I don't think I've ever really done that before," Timberlake continued.
The pop star also revealed that he recorded 100 songs for the new project and "worked for a long time on this album," having to narrow down to a final tracklist of 18 songs.
"I think every artist probably says this, but it is my best work," Timberlake said of the album, which includes "moments that are incredibly honest, but also, there's a lot of f---ing fun on this album."
In promotion of the album, Timberlake recently announced his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which begins in Vancouver on April 29 and later wraps in July in Lexington, Kentucky.
A source told PEOPLE earlier this week that after spending time to focus on family — wife Jessica Biel and their two sons, Silas, 8½, and Phineas, 3½ — Timberlake "just had this urge to create again" for a new record.
“He’s been super into it and Jess has been supportive,” the insider said, adding that his wife "loves his new music" and that "they are great together.”
