Kaiser Chiefs bring the house down at Southampton Summer Sessions

Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson had hardly a voice left to sing with but he powered on to make sure they never missed a beat in Southampton.

The inaugural TK Maxx presents Southampton Summer Sessions came to a spectacular close with headliners Kaiser Chiefs dazzling Guildhall Square on Sunday.

Hits like Ruby, I Predict a Riot and the intense show-closer Oh My God ensured the night was a testament to their enduring appeal and stage prowess.

(Image: Allan Jones) The British indie rock royalty followed up performances from impressive support artists Royel Otis and Spielmann.

Spielmann was the first to take to the stage, warming up fans in the city centre with high-energy tracks and witty lyricism.

The vibrant Australian duo Royel Otis lit up Southampton with their energetic set, delighting the crowd with their viral cover of Murder On The Dancefloor.

Leeds United football fan Wilson took to the stage at around 8:30pm and was buoyed by an England win despite audibly suffering from illness.

Wilson reassured the crowd that he did not care how he sounded on his Monday morning radio appearance - and they agreed to help him sing the hits.

(Image: Allan Jones) Guildhall Square was packed with Three Lions shirts after a show-stopping late win over Slovakia in the European Championship round of 16.

Kaiser Chiefs played for just over an hour and returned for a much-anticipated encore after initially departing the stage.

Guildhall Square felt sleek and natural as an event venue with limited queuing time to get inside and reach the bar.

The stage is set into the backdrop of the new city centre on Above Bar Street and the music can be heard from most of the local establishments.

(Image: Hannah McAteer) The only criticism is the pricing is expensive even for a festival - charging £8 for a single spirit and mixer and up to £14 for a portion of loaded nachos.

But there was no angry mob and bringing artists like the Kaiser Chiefs to Southampton is most welcome.

They proved a fitting end to Southampton Summer Sessions with boundless charisma keeping the audience enthralled.
