All About the New “Karate Kid” Movie
Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan are teaming up for a brand-new Karate Kid movie
The Karate Kid franchise is being introduced to a new generation.
Following the success of the original ‘80s films led by Ralph Macchio and the 2010 remake starring Jackie Chan, Sony Pictures is rebooting the franchise with a brand-new film.
The movie was first announced in September 2022 and a year later, it was announced that Macchio and Chan would be reprising their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han, respectively.
At the time, the duo announced that they were searching for “the next Karate Kid” to star in the upcoming film with a global search led by Sony.
Since then, plot details have been kept tightly under wraps, however, we have gotten a handful of exciting news about the cast and release date.
Ahead of the film’s release later this year, here’s everything to know about Karate Kid.

What is Karate Kid about?
At the moment, Sony Pictures hasn’t released an official logline for the film. However, seeing that both Macchio and Chan are reprising their roles, it appears that the new movie will be set in the same universe as the original Karate Kid films as well as the 2010 reboot that starred Jaden Smith.
Who is in the cast of Karate Kid?
The film already has a star-studded cast lined up. In addition to Macchio and Chan, the cast includes Joshua Jackson (marking his return to film in almost a decade), Sadie Stanley and Ming-Na Wen.
Who is directing Karate Kid?
The movie will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle, best known for his work on Netflix’s hit series The End of the F***ing World. The screenplay will be written by Rob Lieber and Karen Rosenfelt is slated to produce.
When does Karate Kid film?
In November 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Sony hoped to start production in the spring of 2024.
When will Karate Kid be released?
The film will be released in theaters on Dec. 13, 2024.
