Kate Garraway has said she will no longer be able to visit her husband Derek Draper in hospital because of new lockdown restrictions.

Draper, 53, was admitted to hospital with the virus in March. He is one of the longest running Covid-19 intensive care patients in the UK.

As a result of Monday’s announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson of a third nationwide lockdown, the hospital where the Good Morning Britain presenter’s husband is receiving treatment has banned visitors.

Speaking to Dr Hilary Jones and Good Morning Britain co-host Ben Shephard, Garraway, 53, said: “Now I’m in a position where even I can’t visit.

“We’re into lockdown, no visits at all, which I hope doesn’t continue for the whole of lockdown because I think that will be very impactful.”

Although the presenter’s visits to hospital were “infrequent”, she said the new restrictions were “tough” on her family.

The presenter, who has two children Darcey and William with Draper, said: “The ability was very carefully controlled in situations where you could get some sort of access.

"Now, I don’t know whether it’s every hospital, but certainly where Derek is being treated there are now no visitors at all, which is tough.”

Garraway confirmed her family were able to see Draper over Christmas.

“There was a lovely moment which we did have which was we did over the period get to see Derek and the children did, which was the first time they’ve been able to do that,” she revealed.

“So that was amazing. Of course, it was very heightened with emotion because he is very changed… I’m very grateful to have had that opportunity.”
