Watch: Hilarious Hugh Bonneville distracts Kate Garraway during Douglas is Cancelled filming
What did you miss?
Kate Garraway has told how Hugh Bonneville jokingly tried to distract her when she shot a cameo role in his new show Douglas Is Cancelled.
The ITV comedy drama is set in the world of TV news, with Paddington star Bonneville as news presenter Douglas Bellowes and Jumanji's Karen Gillan as his younger co-host Madeline. And Good Morning Britain presenter Garraway had a small role in it, playing herself.
Chatting about her cameo on the ITV morning show, the star revealed how Bonneville kept trying to throw her off when they shot their scene, admitting it was "hilarious".
What, how and why?
The series looks at cancel culture, with Douglas’ career left hanging in the balance after he made an ill-advised joke at a wedding.
In one episode, Garraway interviews Bonneville and Gillan – as their alter egos Douglas and Madeline – about their programme Live At Six when they go on Good Morning Britain. Clips showed the presenter desperately trying to keep talking to the cameras as Bonneville crept along behind her sofa.
“As you can see, Hugh Bonneville, when we were trying to do other bits like they do when they are making movies and films and other stuff, kept on going behind the sofa and jumping up and trying to put me off,” she said. “It was hilarious!”
“I was so chuffed to be doing it!” Garraway added of her role.
Kate Garraway has had other cameos as herself
It isn’t the first time that Garraway has played herself on screen. In 2017 the broadcaster filmed a scene for the movie Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, which showed her warning Good Morning Britain viewers about an incoming “Sharknado” – a tornado that had picked up sharks.
She ended up meeting a sticky end when a shark crashed into the studio during a live broadcast and she was crushed and killed, along with her fellow presenters Laura Tobin and Charlotte Hawkins.
That year the star also popped up in Channel 4's Hollyoaks, where she was seen covering Ste Hay's trial for the murder of Amy Barnes.
She has said she loved her appearance in the soap, posting on Twitter (now X) after filming: "Big tks to the @Hollyoaks gang 4 making filming my small part in a big plot for sept - so much fun!!!"
Douglas is Cancelled starts at 9pm on ITV on June 27.
