Kate Garraway halts GMB for 'breaking news' - but viewers all have same complaint

Kate Garraway and Adil Ray from Good Morning Britain suddenly found themselves in the heart of election coverage as polling stations opened, upending the conventional format of the programme.

It started with Kate interjecting: "We have some breaking news. Polling stations are now open." However, things shifted towards the unusual when Adil was obliged to inform watchers that due to specific broadcast restrictions, they would be unable to properly delve into the day's political affairs. Instead, he suggested that the emphasis would be on how voters can get involved.

Election coverage often constrains what broadcasters can discuss, leading Kate to explain the situation stating: "You might be wondering why, on the day of the election because it is polling day today! we're not actually discussing the issues related to the general election, or indeed interviewing people that might have a position on those issues."

The hosts addressed the show's peculiar stance, explaining: "We can talk about what to do, can't we, in terms of polling. We can't talk about the issues because we have to follow certain broadcasting rules, which means today's Good Morning Britain is a politics-free zone."

In the midst of friendly banter, Adil tossed in: "Some people might enjoy!" and Kate reciprocated saying: "Some people might be delighted!"

The social media crowd certainly didn't hold back their opinions. Viewers mocked GMB for labelling the opening of polling stations as 'breaking news', with comments surfacing online like: "How is a polling station being open 'breaking news'? Get a grip #GMB! " and another quipping: "Breaking news Tesco Extra is now open!"

Kate Garraway recently shared on the programme that she was momentarily distracted by a hair mishap, which occurred just after she delivered the important update that junior doctors in England had commenced a five-day strike at the end of June 2024. While on air, Kate, alongside Nitya Rajan, announced: "And that is our breaking news story."

The experienced presenter appeared "flustered" when her unruly hair wouldn't cooperate as she tried to read from the autocue. In a moment of honesty, Kate threw up her hands in frustration and admitted: "I was just having a hair crisis! I'm going to be honest."

In a swift display of teamwork, her co-host Adil Ray immediately stepped in to help, reassuring Kate while he addressed the problem, saying: "Let me just check this hair now." After quickly fixing her hair, he confidently stated: "Yeah, it looks like it normally does."

Regaining her composure, Kate commented: "People are saying my hair looks sweaty and it flustered me for a moment. But I'm back, with news and politics now!"
