Kate Garraway says husband 'fighting so hard' amid coronavirus battle

Kate Garraway has said her husband Derek Draper is “fighting so hard” as he continues to battle the coronavirus.

Draper was taken to hospital more than a month ago suffering from the virus and Good Morning Britain star Garraway recently said the last few weeks have been the hardest of her life.

The TV star has been updating fans on social media regularly, often after the Thursday night Clap For Carers.

This week she posted a message on Instagram saying that her husband was continuing to fight and that she was “awestruck” by the efforts of the NHS workers trying to help him.

Garraway, who turned 53 this week, shared a video showing neighbours letting off plumes of red, white and blue smoke during the clap.

“The neighbours turned into ‘red arrows’ tonight for #clapthecarers #nhs & #keyworkers,” she said.

“Have taken so much comfort & inspiration from the spirit of the country beautifully personified by Captain Tom these past few weeks.........and with VE Day tomorrow it’s a reminder of the strength and resilience that we all have within us if we pull together and keep going.

“Derek is still with us, fighting so hard to beat this virus & every day I am awestruck by how hard every member of the nhs team is fighting to turn things around & bring him ( & so many others) home to their loved ones.”

“You are amazing,” she said. “Thank you thank you, Sending love to you all in these terrible times #staypositive #hope #standtogether.”

Garraway and Draper, 52, have been married since 2005 and have two children - daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 10.

The presenter recently penned a personal blog about her family’s struggle.

“It remains an extremely worrying time for us all and the last couple of weeks have been the hardest of my life,” she said.
