Kate Garraway misses another Good Morning Britain as Ranvir Singh steps in

Kate Garraway was missing from Good Morning Britain this morning (May 16) with Ranvir Singh taking over as her replacement.

The popular presenter usually takes the lead on Thursday mornings, however she is not appearing today in any capacity. Ranvir Singh and Ed Balls are instead hosting the show together and are joined by colleague Sean Fletcher, who is acting as the newsreader.

The reason for Kate's absence has not been disclosed, but she is expected to return to the show on Friday. This is not the first time Kate has been absent from the show in recent months, having taken a few breaks just weeks ago.

Her upcoming absence is said to have first been announced on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, according to the Sun. The outlet previously reported that it had been shared on the latest episode that Ranvir would replace Kate.

Kate has worked on Good Morning Britain since 2014, which is the year that it launched. The show celebrated its tenth anniversary last month, including having shared a montage of moments. Kate and her colleagues featured in the video, alongside a couple of former hosts such as Piers Morgan.

The anniversary came shortly before Kate celebrated her birthday. Her former colleague Ben Shephard was among those who marked the occasion earlier this month. Her birthday is said to have coincided with the tenth anniversary of her having joined the radio station Smooth.

It marked Kate's first birthday since her late husband Derek Draper passed away, aged 56, in January. Derek had made headlines over his health in recent years, including having been hospitalised for over a year in the Covid pandemic.

Kate has since reflected on her birthday, with her having written about the special occasion in a post on Instagram recently. Alongside a clip of some celebrations, she wrote in a message to her followers: "Well yesterday was another one of those sad 1st's - my first birthday since Derek's passing."

She further commented in the caption of the post shared earlier this month on the platform: "Woke up feeling so sad and thought well I can either cry all day or celebrate life as he did so well. And thanks to wonderful friends it worked! See you on [the show] tomorrow from 6 - happy bank holiday weekend everyone!"
