Kate Middleton has reportedly flouted a culinary convention adhered to by Queen Elizabeth II, after a heartwarming interaction with a young admirer revealed her preferred treat.

The Princess of Wales, who is presently receiving preventative chemotherapy, confided in a child about one of her cherished snacks during a visit to Great Ormand Street Hospital in 2018.

In a conversation with four-year-old Rafael Chana, Kate, aged 42, discovered the boy's fondness for olives and divulged her own affinity for the nutrient-rich fruit.

In their endearing dialogue, Kate, who has temporarily withdrawn from Royal engagements due to her cancer treatment, admitted: "I used to eat lots and lots of olives when I was little as well."

Adding further detail to Kate's penchant for olives, Royal reporter Rebecca English shared on the platform X - previously known as Twitter - that: "The Duchess of Cambridge [now Princess of Wales] revealed today that her daughter, Princess Charlotte, loves olives and she encourages both her and Prince George to cook with her."

Although Royal enthusiasts were thrilled by this unusual glimpse into the Royal kitchen, this honest remark actually contradicts Queen Elizabeth's tough golden rule about food.

The late Queen did not want her favourite meals ruined by seeing them served at each engagement, instead favouring variety, and hence abstained from revealing what she most enjoyed when in public, reports the Mirror.

It seems the Princess of Wales doesn't mind though -- she's previously spoken about what dining looks like in the Wales' household while speaking with ex-Great British Bake Off judge Mary Berry.

Joking that Princess Charlotte 'naturally loves her Charlotte potatoes', food enthusiast Kate admitted: "We grow our own vegetables, we've got carrots, beans, beetroot's a massive favourite, Louis absolutely loves beetroot."

While the late Queen preferred to leave her favoured dishes a secret, some of her preferences have been previously disclosed. A 2022 article in FoodandWine magazine unveiled her liking for delicate sandwiches filled with smoked salmon and cream cheese, venison burgers, and chocolate biscuit cake.

She was also reportedly quite fond of a crisp gin cocktail, with gin and Dubonnet being her beverage of choice.
