Kate Middleton made her first official appearance since her cancer diagnosis at Trooping the Colour last weekend – but fans were distracted by a bizarre detail.

The Princess of Wales wowed in a black and white ensemble as she made her way to Buckingham Palace's famous balcony alongside other members of the Royal Family to mark King Charles' state birthday. Since the event on Saturday, June 15, eagle-eyed fans have been scanning footage of the event for details they may have missed first time round.

But no one was expecting to see "Miriam Margolyes" in the back of the 42-year-old's carriage.

Brits were left cackling after an image of the Princess was posted to X, formerly Twitter, showing her waving to the gathered crowds. However, thanks to a fluke in the lighting, Prince Louis ended up looking just like the British-Australian A-lister for a second as he gazed out of the window.

The picture was captioned: "Can't stop thinking about the reflection in this picture making it look like Miriam Margolyes has just woken up in the back of Kate Middleton's carriage."

The post has been liked 17,000 times, leaving people in fits of laughter. One user said: "That's how you know it was a good night out." Another chimed in with: "I can hear her now... 'sorry I just farted'."

A third replied: "This actually made me LOL and I never write LOL." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "I would pay a lot to see the Netflix series based on this tweet."

Speculation had swirled prior to the event suggesting Kate might not make an appearance at the annual event. The princess, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer back in March, had not been seen in public since the news was announced.

However, in a statement issued the evening before the big day, the mum-of-three revealed she would attend, much to the delight of fans. In a statement, she said: "I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months.

"It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.

"I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting.

"But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well. My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months."
