Kate Middleton issues rare update following cancer diagnosis
Kate Middleton may not be working at an official capacity, but she’s still keeping up to date to causes close to her heart.
The Princess of Wales, 42, has remained out of the public eye after announcing she had been diagnosed with cancer in March this year.
The video message came as a result of numerous lurid conspiracy theories speculating on Kate’s whereabouts, despite Kensington Palace confirming she was taking leave from public duties following abdominal surgery.
But while Kate is still recuperating, she is keeping abreast of her charity work.
The Princess has been briefed on a report by the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, palace sources have confirmed to the BBC. However, she was not present at a launch event which took place at the City of London.
Christian Guy, the executive director behind the report for the early childhood initiative, added that Kate had been ‘excited’ by the report, which has urged businesses to invest in supporting families with young children by calling for flexible working hours and childcare support.
The findings also suggested that the UK economy could make long-term gains of £45.5bn per year from a more successful approach to children's early years.
However, it may be a long time before we see Kate working in the public eye again.
A spokesperson for the Princess told the BBC: “The Princess is not expected to return to work until it's cleared by her medical team.”
Elsewhere, King Charles has returned to official (although limited) public duties following his own cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
The monarch recently visited the Army Flying Museum in Hampshire, where he gave an insight on his own treatment, according to the Daily Mail.
When Aaron Mapplebeck, a veteran in attendance, said he had lost his sense of taste while undergoing chemotherapy to treat testicular cancer, King Charles revealed the same thing had happened to him.
King Charles, who stepped back from his public duties while undergoing treatment, has publicly thanked everyone who has sent him well wishes. He says the kindness shown “reduced me to tears”.
He's also been vocal in his support of daughter-in-law, saying he's “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did,” following her video revealing her diagnosis. Fortunately, Kate and her young family are “doing well,” according to a recent update shared by Prince William.
